Build East Sussex - Annual Construction Marketplace - 4th March 2014
The YES Employability Team arrived at the Amex Stadium, the home of Brighton and Hove football club for the Build East Sussex event. The first challenge was to get into the stadium, both Kayleigh (Communications Officer) and I managed to walk around the whole stadium missing the entrance, a very big stadium it is! A very busy event with a good buzz. Lots of employers from the construction industry, using the event as a place to network. The event had a specific focus on apprenticeships.
Cllr Belsey gave the opening speech, sharing the importance of offering apprentice opportunities for young people in East Sussex and we were fortunate enough to video him speaking about apprenticeships (see above). Also Cllr Nick Bennett gave an insightful talk on TrAC (Training and Apprenticeships in Construction) as a way of delivering fixed -term apprenticeships within the industry. We also had an apprentice, Ry Poskitt, share his experience of being a TrAC apprentice.
YES Youth Employability Team has found the event informative and lots of new contacts made. We spoke to Louise Ince from Workingrite who are a training provider that support employers who take on apprentices. Please see her video below.
Let's hope getting out of the stadium will be easier!
