Why volunteer? - Emma's story

03 June 2014

I volunteered for four years and finished just over a year ago and I deeply missed the experience.
I feel good if I am helping others by giving up my time.  Moreover, for an organisation such as this, it is very rewarding because I know my role will have an impact on our service which will ultimately enhance the life chances of all young people that access it.

I am increasing my skills in areas such as: research, ability to analyse complex policies and able to make suggestions for amendments, my ability to convey information in an understandable format and to different audiences, and how to work with various people at different levels.   Volunteering provides me with a sense of worth. I feel valued and trusted and this substantially increases my confidence and makes me feel very positive.
