All Saturday, various members of the team collected change in buckets, spoke to the general public and tempted donations with leaflets, sweets and offers of free fruit at their stall in Hempstead Valley.
With a fundraising target of £13,000 over the next 4 months, New Horizons have a long way to go and many activities ahead of them, but all the young people and staff involved are passionate about their cause.
If you haven’t heard of the New Horizons group before, it’s a programme set up by the youth charity, Medway Youth Trust (this year celebrating its 8th birthday!). This programme has interviewed, inducted and enlisted 13 vulnerable young people from Medway to attend workshops, a UK residential and in the future, a 3 week trip to Moldova, in order to build their confidence, aspirations and employment skills. The trip will involve several conservation projects, including teaching English in schools and potentially working in a day centre for vulnerable children. But most importantly, Medway Youth Trust is aiming to give young people from Medway an amazing opportunity to participate in an intercultural experience and learn life skills in a completely different environment.
Keep an eye out for future fundraising events! We’ll be holding a stall at Beechams Way Car-boot sale on Sunday the 6th of June, bag-packing at Chatham’s Asda on Saturday the 18th of June and, in the future, looking to complete fun runs, quiz evenings and much more!
Keep up to date with our Twitter and Facebook pages and please feel free to donate to our cause at http://www.themytrust.org/Fundraisers/new-horizons-2016
To find out more about the group and what New Horizons means to them, we will be posting individual blogs over the coming weeks - keep your eyes peeled!
