MYT Transforms Luton Millennium Green for DofE Award

11 January 2017

Luton Millennium Green is a quiet and peaceful greenery hidden away behind the busy roads and houses in Luton, Chatham. In the past, MYT’s Youth Forum have used the park and space to host MYT’s annual Charity Fete, where charities come together to showcase their work and volunteering opportunities.

In October 2016, Dan, An Adviser at MYT, saw potential for the park to become a fantastic social action project and a great opportunity for young people to use Luton Millennium Green as part of the volunteering section for their DofE award. So, with the help of Luton Arches Local, Medway Plus, Medway Council and Magpie Growers – a bid was successful to start the work and invites were then sent out to young people to come and help out with the project.

Old paths were uncovered and new paths were laid, new trees and bulbs were planted and grass seed scattered. Young people, Haben Haile and Emma Chessex together with Dan and Rachel from MYT spent two hours every fortnight (Friday’s) volunteering until the beginning of December to complete the work.

Although Luton Millennium Green is now complete, we are still very keen to continue with more social action projects in the future and are in search for some other areas in need of care and attention.

Well done everyone to everyone who worked so hard on this fantastic project.
