I joined Medway Youth Trust in February 2013. Previously before this I was a Youth Worker for Medway Youth Service running the Gillingham North & Rainham Detached Project. Before my change in career with working with young people, I used to be a Motor Vehicle Mechanic working for a Peugeot Dealership in Maidstone, Kent. What prompted me to work with young people was that I used to be a volunteer Youth Worker for Kent Youth Service working at Lenham Youth Centre. Through my volunteering, I managed to obtain a paid Part-Time position and then managed to progress with Kent Youth Service and became a Full Time Sports & Recreation Youth Worker. Many of the young people who approach Medway Youth Trust are often unemployed and at times have other problems in life too. To see someone emerge happier and more fulfilled from MYT’s help and support, having developed skills and self-confidence, and achieving economic independence, is very rewarding indeed, especially if I have helped play a part in shaping the young person’s success! The things I do for relaxation outside of work are keeping myself fit healthy through my cycling, martial arts and spending time with my family.
