Natasha Cook - Youth Support Adviser in East Sussex

03 July 2014

My Name is Tash and I am the Youth Support Adviser for East Sussex YES based in Hastings and Eastbourne (and anywhere in-between!). I have been working with young people in voluntary and paid roles for the past 10 years. I have worked in a variety of settings from Youth clubs to Carnivals!

I started doing Youth Work as a Young Leader with the Girl Guides and a member of Eastbourne Youth Council and East Sussex Youth Cabinet. I worked with the East Sussex anti bullying team in Eastbourne, as well as volunteering at various Youth Development Service projects. This then led me on to do a health and social care certificate at the local college, as well as doing various paid Youth Work roles.

I went to the University of Chichester in West Sussex and gained a Degree in Youth and Community Work, plus an extra module in early intervention substance misuse with young people. After Uni I got a Job with Eastbourne and Wealden YMCA as a sessional Youth Worker at a number of centres in Eastbourne. I still do this job in the evening, plus training as a Guide Leader. My previous two day jobs have been as a SEN Teaching Assistant in a local secondary school and a Key Worker at a Pupil Referral Unit.

When I can find any spare time I like to go to music concerts and festivals, I am mad about rugby and really love going to games. I also enjoy swimming, going to the gym and walking. The one thing I really like is the Moomins who are a family of carton Charters written by the Finish author Tove Jansson.
