In each edition of our newsletter we will share a young person’s story to show the difference we make. Real stories, real lives and results change everything. Here is T’s story.
“I was told MYT would help me with my problem and at first I doubted it. From day one when I met everyone I had to question how this would benefit me exactly, everyone seemed fairly confident and I’m not afraid to admit that I may have prematurely judged everyone unfairly. But as time went by I realised something, people were actually talking to me and trying to get me involved.
I was usually the quiet kid in the corner who no one ever talked to, so it was quite a revelation for me to actually be around people who seemed to want me to be there, for the first time in a long time I actually felt like I belonged in this group. It may sound stupid, in fact I’m pretty sure it does. Listening to the other young people talk about their life stories and experiences, their personal mistakes and regrets had a strange effect on me, somehow knowing that we were all here because we didn’t like where we were at the time, and despite that we are all very different people who have led very different lives, we are united by our desire to fix that, to fix our lives and get back on the right track. This course with MYT gave us the opportunity to do that in the most indirect way I can imagine and for that I thank MYT because without them I would be sitting at home in my room refusing to talk to anyone I didn’t know or even go outside.
My anxiety disorder isn’t entirely gone unfortunately, but it’s clear to me that I have improved and I’ve no one to thank but MYT and everyone else on the ‘Yes I Can’ course. Before I didn’t know what to do next but now I know what I want to do and will be going to college later this year to do my A Levels and then after that I’m going to pursue a degree. If I ever get the chance I’d still love to be an actor but for now I’m back where I want to be in life thanks to MYT and I just want to say thank you, thank you so much”.
