Although we awoke to rain, once again the Medway Charity Fete was held on a glorious summer’s day.

The young people of the Youth Forum had an early start with some arriving at Gillingham Park at 8am to help set up the stalls and get everything organised.

By 10am at the start of the Fete, 26 Charities and Medway organisations were in place and a fine sight it was too.

All were busy from the start and Kelley the face painter did not even have time to eat or drink as she was kept busy right to the end.

The musical entertainment was provided by Ben Rist from Talent Match and his rapping friend Demon. They did an excellent set before the Skylarks took over at lunch time with their communal choral singing. An interesting contrast.

The excellent food and drink was provided by our friends at the Sunlight Trust whose pasties, sausage rolls and enormous brownies went down a treat with everyone.

The Mayor and Mayoress visited the Fete and was expertly shown round every stall by our ex young Trustee Terry. They had a great time having their photos taken with each Charity. Councillors Maple and Brake were also in attendance making a point of meeting with as many people as they could.

The NCS Teams arrived throughout the day, hungry for Social Action Projects for the final two weeks of their course. They met with all the Charities also looking for volunteering opportunities and eager to find out about the work carried out in Medway.

The Charities were really pleased with how the day had gone, “Only positive things to say about the day. The interest shown by all of the young people was great and we feel we got a lot from the day through networking alone. Already looking forward to next year” said Peter Vogel from MedwayPlus.

The Youth Forum members, some of them in their newly acquired green Arches Local T Shirts, were busy raising funds for the Fete by selling Raffle tickets and New Horizons were having a great time raising money with their human fruit machine. Aaron the Viking was also raising funds by posing for photos.

After a monster litter pick at the end of the day and with all the stalls cleared away the Youth Forum members finally left the park at 4pm after a long but enjoyable day in the sun. Their fourth Charity Fete completed and successful. Plans are already underway for 2018…………
