Emily was referred to MY Trust from a local college to take part on the Prince’s Trust programme. Emily was previously attending college, but experienced some serious health issues whilst on her course, which made it hard to keep up with the work. With many hospital appointments to attend, Emily’s confidence levels were low and she lost all hope of getting back in to education again. Emily also has dyslexia, dyspraxia, and global development.

When Emily started the Prince’s Trust programme we assigned our social work student to work closely with Emily on a 1:1 basis to ensure she had all the support she needed to complete the programme.

Throughout the programme, Emily improved her confidence and showed great leadership skills. During the community project phase of the Prince’s Trust Programme, Emily took on the role of Team Leader ensuring all aspects were covered and completed by the team. For the Team Challenge phase, the team organised a successful fun day on behalf of MAPS at Chatham Football Club. Emily contacted the Kent Messenger newspaper and the Mayor to attend the day as which was very successful. Emily’s confidence also grew by hosting the team’s final presentation.

During the community project phase of the programme and whilst work was well underway at the care home, Emily enquired if there were any jobs or apprenticeships as she was interested in working in the care industry. She was given the chance to do an apprenticeship on the spot and to start straight away. Before she started her new apprenticeship, Emily made sure she completed the Prince’s Trust programme. Her apprenticeship started the following day after the programme had finished.
