After graduating from Magdalene College, Cambridge, and qualifying as a barrister, Peregrine joined Thomas Miller where he pursued a career in international mediation and dispute resolution. As a partner and main Board Director from 1990 until his retirement in 2012, he was at the heart of the firm's expansion from a London-centric single office to an international multi-business corporation with 15 offices around the world focused on hubs in New York, London and Hong Kong. 

Other appointments include High Sheriff of Kent 2010/11; Chairman of Governors, Ashford School, 2007-2016; Master, Merchant Taylors' Company, 2015-16; Patron, Childhood First; President, Weald of Kent Protection Society; Kent Ambassador; Director, Wealden Festival Foundation.

Peregrine is married to Deirdre, and lives in Woodchurch, near Tenterden, where their well-known garden is open to the public from April to October and where they host the annual Wealden Literary Festival. Their three daughters and their families all live in Kent.

Peregrine has been a Patron of MY Trust (through its predecessor organisation Kent Youth) since 2012.
